Finding Freedom through our Fears
How often do you come up with an idea, then right after you are wedged in thought? The idea sounds great, but it doesn’t feel quite tangible. You feel stuck. Time passes then you realize you never got anything done. Fear, pressures of society and so many other things seem to get in the way of us finding joy in the present. Fear keeps us from pursuing the ideas that move us.
Finding peace and contentment within our own breath breaks us from those cycles of thought that inhibit us. One of the books that I am currently reading is “The Art of Communication” by Thich Nhat Hanh. So far one of the major themes that I have taken from it is the importance of taking a step back to connect with who we are or as he puts it “to go home”. There was one quote in particular that really connects the idea of the joys that we can find when we are able to be present and let go of the dialogues of doubt, anxieties, and fears that we replay in our minds;
“If we are overloaded with fear, anger, regret, or anxiety, we are not free, no matter what position we hold in society or how much money we have. Real freedom only comes when we’re able to release our suffering and come home.”
When we are able to take ownership of our breath, we can find freedom. That is when we are able to finally let go of continuously reaching out for things outside of us and connect with ourselves.
Imagine yourself on the other side of fear and worries. What does that freedom look like? What have you been able to release? Write a letter of affirmations confirming what your newly found freedom looks like. I created one for myself as an example:
On the other side of fear is wealth, not only in the monetary form but mental and spiritual.
Now that I am releasing fear, I will be able to see my talents in their fullest form. I have acquired all I need in order to be successful.
I have arrived. I am at peace.
When I am free, I free myself.
When I am free, I heal my ancestors.
I am whole.
I have everything I need, I lack nothing.
I release any fears of being vulnerable.
